Early Life

Kathy Najimy was born on February 6th, 1957 in San Diego, California to Lebanese parents, Samia (Massery) and Fred Najimy, a postal worker. In 1946, her mother emigrated to the United States from Lebanon.

Kathy Najimy’s father died when she was 14 years old, and she was raised as a Maronite Catholic community. Najimy graduated from San Diego State University in 1995 after attending Crawford High School.

Career Beginnings

Najimy began her acting career on stage, and she rose to national prominence in 1986 with the enormously popular comedic play with feminist undercurrents, “The Kathy and Mo Show.” But this was not her first experience with a celebrity; she had previously appeared on television.

In 1981, the young actress appeared on the TV show Family Feud with her family. She received a $10,000 reward. She also appeared as a participant in the game show “$25,000 Pyramid” in 1985. In the same year, she appeared in the television film Walls of Glass.

Breakthrough

In 1991, Kathy got her breakthrough when she co-hosted a show with Mo Gaffney called The Kathy & Mo Show: Parallel Lives. The same year, she made her feature film debut in the buddy police action drama, The Hard Way, and The Fisher King.
