Here is everything I know about finding a good intern for your architecture studio: 1. Look for a Strong Portfolio: โœ…Prioritize candidates with portfolios that demonstrate not only skill but also creativity and a passion for architecture. A good portfolio = Organisation, Adobe skills, knowledge on visual demonstration. 2. Technical Proficiency: โœ…Familiarity with essential software and tools in architecture can be a huge plus, enabling interns to contribute effectively from the get-go. You can ask them during the interview which of their portfolio projects were made on which software, to get an idea on their skill set.3. Communication Skills: โœ… Often overlooked!! Effective communication is crucial in architecture. Interns should be able to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate with team members.4. Adaptability: โœ…The ability to adapt to new challenges and learn on the job is invaluable. Look for interns who are eager to grow and can handle feedback constructively. Test this during the interview, if you can.5. PASSION: โœ…You can have the most skilled intern, but if they hate the job you provide to them you guys will get nowhere. Remember, a great intern not only has the skills but also fits well with your teamโ€™s culture and shares your practice's vision. Happy hunting!#Architecture #Internship #TalentAcquisition #ArchitecturalPractice

FAQs

Why is deploying a microservices environment more complicated than deploying a monolith? โ€บ

Developers install the entire application code base and dependencies in a single environment. In contrast, deploying microservice-based applications is more complex, as each microservice is an independently deployable software package. Developers usually containerize microservices before deploying them.

Which would you expect to be better in a monolith architecture than in a microservice architecture? โ€บ

Time to market.

For a small team with a simple app, a monolith architecture allows for faster development. For multiple teams working on requirements that may change, a microservices architecture allows parallel development and flexibility.

What challenges you faced during converting monolith to microservice? โ€บ

Some challenges in migrating from monolithic to microservices include architectural complexity, data migration, and cultural adaptation. It requires a comprehensive microservices roadmap and skilled teams to ensure a smooth transition, while mitigating risks associated with the change in architecture and workflows.

What is the difference between monolith to microservices and building microservices? โ€บ

If you choose a specific technology stack for a Monolithic app, you are committed to it for the entire application. Scalability: Monolithic applications scale by deploying the entire application, whereas Microservices enable individual service scaling. Microservices allow for individual service scaling.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of monolithic and microservice architectures? โ€บ

While monolithic architecture has its advantages, it can become complex and difficult to manage as businesses grow. Microservices provide agility and scalability, as well as the ability to independently develop and deploy services and easily add new features.

What are the benefits of moving from monolith to microservices? โ€บ

Since a microservices architecture consists of units that run independently, each service can be developed, updated, deployed, and scaled without affecting the other services. Software updates can be performed more frequently, with improved reliability, uptime, and performance.

How to migrate data from monolith to microservices? โ€บ

10 tips for migrating from monolith to microservices
  1. Understand the monolith. ...
  2. Find the right candidates for refactoring. ...
  3. Incrementally refactor. ...
  4. Ensure the microservices architecture is loosely coupled. ...
  5. Choose the right technology for each service. ...
  6. Instrument for end-to-end observability. ...
  7. Factor in security at every stage.

Can you go back to monolith from microservices? โ€บ

Switching from microservice back to monolith requires an existing microservice to be used as the "center" of the future monolith to host the new functionality [SA22]. All other services will eventually be merged into this center.

How do you break a monolith into microservices? โ€บ

How to break a Monolith into Microservices
  1. Understand the Monolith: ...
  2. Define Microservices: ...
  3. Decompose the Database: ...

When should you use monolith architecture? โ€บ

Small solutions which do not demand much business logic, superior scalability, and flexibility work better with a monolith. You need to launch it quickly. In case you want to develop your application and use it as soon as possible, a monolithic model is the best choice.

Are microservices more expensive than monolith? โ€บ

Even though monolithic architecture requires lower upfront payments, it is more expensive to scale and develop. Microservices are more expensive at first, but cheaper to scale, and are a more cost-effective option in the long run.

Which companies use monolithic architecture? โ€บ

Airbnb: Airbnb started with a monolithic architecture and has gradually adopted a more service-oriented approach. However, parts of its core platform still rely on a monolithic codebase. SoundCloud: SoundCloud, the music streaming platform, initially built its service using a monolithic architecture.

Why is monitoring a microservices deployment more difficult than monitoring a single monolith deployment? โ€บ

A changing environment can make monitoring more difficult. In monolithic applications, monitoring typically required manual tuning of metrics based on individual deploymentsโ€”for example, configuring collection for a specific metric on specific servers. This approach is not feasible in a large microservices environment.

What challenges and risks do organizations often face when switching from monolithic systems to microservices? โ€บ

The challenges of migrating from monolithic to microservices include complex decomposition, data consistency, inter-service communication, deployment, monitoring, security, cultural shifts, performance overhead, dependency management, and testing.

What is the difference between Kubernetes monolith and microservices? โ€บ

In a monolithic architecture, every change or update requires a complete redeployment of the application. This can lead to longer development cycles and increased risk of deployment failures. With microservices, changes or updates can be made to a single service without affecting the entire system.

What is the difference between monolithic SOA and microservices? โ€บ

Monolithic architectures may still be the best choice for small, tightly-knit applications, while SOA and Microservices offer more flexibility and scalability for larger, more complex projects.
